Insights from the FES Youth Study 2016/2017 Lecture by Jörg Gertel (Institute of Geography, Leipzig University) and Sonja Hegasy (ZMO) as part of the ZMO-Colloquium The Idea of Youth: Concepts, Practices and Lifeworlds of a Global Category
This double-lecture presents a youth study carried out by the Friedrich- Ebert-Stiftung and TNS Infratest/Kantar Public in eight countries and among Syrian refugees living in Lebanon in 2016. The study addresses the risks and uncertainties that shape young people’s everyday lives and require flexible modes of adapting to, and organizing life. The nationwide samples of a total of 9,000 teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16 and 30 were followed by 10 qualitative interviews per case- study to probe specific aspects of the quantitative data. Entertainment is consid-ered as one of the most important activities in any society. Its several types and methods reflect the different faces of culture of any origin. In the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century puppet shows were a widespread entertainment medium in Qajar Iran. Although the puppet show's history is not very known in Iran, it can be traced back at least to the Safavid period. However, it seems that it was in the Qajar period that this practice and industry was developed. Puppet shows became a famous popular art for all social classes, reflecting many faces of the political, economic and cultural life of that time...
